dc.description.abstractThe study was about the impact of human resource planning on the performance of secondary schools in Uganda with Buyende district as the case study. In carrying out research, three objectives were proposed; to examine the effect of recruitment and selection towards performance of secondary schools in Buyende District, to determine the effect of career development towards performance of secondary schools in Buyende District and to determine the influence of employee retention strategies on performance of secondary schools in Buyende District. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design which was employed the use of quantitative and qualitative research approaches. The study obtained data from 158 respondents using quantitative and qualitative approaches. The study found out that at approval of necessity of recruitment, the person in charge develops a job description and personal specification hence improving the overall performance of the organization, applicants are screened against qualifications, knowledge, skills and abilities, advertisement or searching of applicant is made outside the organization and applicants come to know that there is vacant post in Buyende district though private employment agencies, career development has a positive significant influence on towards performance of secondary schools in Buyende District. Career progression among the secondary schools is guided by specific criteria, career advancement in the secondary schools based on competences of members of staff and having a well-structured progression plan guided on equity and merit would improve on performance and employee compensation was found to be the most used employee retention strategy used in the district. Compensation was highly confirmed by the highly paid package, the attractive attention, and the bonus they earn for every overtime. While participants indicated to be highly paid, the study did not establish the different salary scales that are paid to employees. The study recommended that the Education institution under study should regularly assess the training needs of members of staff before undertaking any training. This will help in identifying areas where training is required and thus improve knowledge and skills to enhance performance and the Education institution in Buyende district should strengthen career growth prospects to produce a workforce that engages in the extra-role behaviour by availing additional responsibilities above employees’ current jobs, varying the responsibilities, elevating staff from a lower to higher ladders in the hierarchy and promote self-driven responsibilities of employees.en_US
