Abstract: | This study investigated Uganda’s foreign policy strategies and assess their effectiveness in attaining the national interests. The specific objectives of the Study were; To assess how economic diplomacy as a foreign policy strategy enhances Uganda’s peace and stability; To assess the economic instruments used in achieving economic development; To assess regional integration as a strategy of Uganda’s foreign policy in enhancing its political interests and to assess Uganda’s military strategies in realizing pan Africanism in the attainment of its national interests. The study adopted a qualitative research approach, employing key informant interviews as the primary data collection method, and also utilized an exploratory research design. Data was collected from senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, Ministry of East African Community Affairs, Ministry of Défense and Veteran Affairs, and other government agencies responsible for implementing foreign policy. Purposive sampling was used to select participants with relevant knowledge and experience. The findings highlighted the significance of economic diplomacy as a foreign policy tool in enhancing peace and stability. The expansion of trade networks, foreign investment attraction, export promotion, and tourism development contribute to improved relations and interdependencies between nations, reducing the likelihood of conflicts. Additionally, regional integration initiatives play a crucial role in enhancing political interests and fostering cultural and social integration among member states. The study also emphasized the importance of military strategies in realizing Pan-Africanism and national interests. Finally, it was recommended that Uganda continues to prioritize economic diplomacy and strengthen trade relationships to enhance peace and stability. Efforts should be made to diversify exports, attract more foreign investment, and promote tourism as a key driver of economic development. Furthermore, regional integration should be further pursued to strengthen political interests and foster cultural integration. |
