The study was about the working environment and employee performance in Local Governments of Uganda, a Case of Luwero Municipal Council. The study was based on three objectives: (i) to examine the effects of social work environment on employee performance of Luwero Municipal Council, (ii) to examine the effect of flexible work environment on employees’ performance of Luwero Municipal Council, (iii) to determine whether physical work environment has an influence on employees’ performance at Luwero Municipal Council. The study design comprised of a combination of both descriptive research designs and employing both qualitative and quantitative approaches. A sample size of 112 although 97 was the actual response rate used. Data was collected using self administer questionnaires, interviews, and a review of related literature. Results of findings from the field revealed that 32(88.9%) were in agreement that Perceived social support from co-workers enhances their job performance. However, the 1(2.8%) respondents who disagreed and 3(8.3%) were neutral. Basing on findings, the majority 34(94.4%) agreed that their organization provides opportunities and support for handling personal problem. From the field findings, 60(61.8%) were in agreement that there is good relationship between employees and the organization. However, 10(10.3%) were not sure and 27(27.8%) of the respondents were in disagreement. Basing on findings, the majority 58(59.8%) were in agreement that every person has different reason for working. However, 13(13.4%) were not sure and 26(26.8%) of the respondents were in disagreement. Findings revealed that 57(58.7%) were in agreement that the workspace is conducive and provides sufficient space for employees to perform. Though 16(16.5%) were neutral and 24(24.7%) of the respondents were in disagreement from the findings, the study concluded that a flexible and supportive work environment plays a vital role in influencing employee performance and satisfaction at Luwero Municipal Council. Fostering positive relationships, providing work-life balance support, and encouraging teamwork, the organization can create a work environment that promotes employee well-being and commitment. The study recommends that Luwero Municipal Council management should ensure that the work environment for staff is reasonable for them to be able to concentrate and achieve the desired objectives |
