Work place ethics and employee productivity in local governments in Uganda: a case of Lira City west division

dc.description.abstract This study aimed at examining the relationship between employee work ethics and employee productivity and it aimed to examine the effect of integrity on employee productivity, assess effect of team work on employee productivity and explore the relationship between good employee relations and employee productivity at Lira City West Division. Both qualitative and quantitative research approaches were used as it allowed empirical inquiry and investigation of the variables. The study revealed that the level of integrity of staff at Lira City West Division is moderately low represented with adjusted r value of .02. However it was revealed that team work and employee relations at Lira City Division was high as represented by r values of 0.876 and .880. This meant that team work and employee relations are the major factors enhancing employee productivity in Lira City West Division. The study also revealed that integrity and team work are positively related with employee productivity with r values of 0.462 and 0.876 at significance level of 0.000 respectively suggesting that an increase in these variables would translate in enhanced employee productivity. It is concluded that for integrity to enhance productivity, employees should disassociate themselves from practices which tend to compromise their integrity which in turn affects their productivity. It is imperative that for employee productivity to increase highly, team work must be encouraged otherwise decline in team work would greatly reduce employee productivity. Employee relations has very strong bond with employee productivity meaning if employee relations is good their productivity can increase. It is recommended that Lira City West Division and any organization whether public or private that is interested in ensuring that its employee productivity increases must work hard to ensure that the level of integrity of the staff is enhanced. Team work stood out strongly as a variable which promotes employee productivity it is therefore recommended that Lira City West Division and any other organization must ensure that workers do their task as a team as this is the only avenue of increased employee productivity. Employee relations has got a positive relationship with employee productivity, it is thus recommended that workers with poor relationships with colleagues must be counseled, advised and reprimanded as bad relations will affect their performance hence lowering their productivity. Finally it is recommended that Lira City West Division and any other Organization interested in increased employee productivity must ensure that team work and integrity are emphasized in work place as they positively influence employee productivity. en_US
